STIHL New Zealand and the network of STIHL SHOP™ retailers form the specialist outdoor power equipment retail presence for the German brand STIHL in New Zealand.
STIHL SHOPs are independent, locally owned outdoor power equipment dealers supplying chainsaws, lawnmowers, trimmers, blowers, water blasters and accessories, both online and in-store. Each store provides expert advice, genuine parts, and servicing support to both consumer and professional customers.
With over 90 STIHL SHOP™ outlets nationwide from Kaitaia to Invercargill the network represents a significant and respected presence in the New Zealand retail landscape, combining global brand strength with strong local ownership and community connection.
STIHL SHOP™ is calling for applications from experienced directors to join the STIHL SHOP Advisory Board as an independent advisory board member. This appointment comes at a time of strategic opportunity as the network continues to evolve its commercial capability, strengthen retailer alignment, and enhance customer experience across the country.
You will join a committed and experienced Advisory Board, contributing strategic guidance to support the ongoing success and sustainability of the independent dealer network.
Particular skills/competencies sought
All candidates must demonstrate sound commercial judgement, a commitment to high standards of integrity and ethical conduct, and the ability to operate with independence and objectivity in a complex stakeholder environment.
We are seeking an advisory board member who brings a highly specialised mix of governance capability, sector insight and commercial maturity.
Applicants must have:
• Proven governance experience, with a strong understanding of contemporary Advisory Board practice
• Demonstrated strategic oversight capability within a retail, or franchise/dealer network environment
• Strong commercial and financial acumen
• Experience working with independent dealer networks and/or franchise models
• The ability to constructively challenge and support management
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills

Commitment required
The Advisory Board meets approximately 4 times per year at in-person meetings.
In addition to regular Advisory Board meetings, directors are expected to participate in:

Three (3) years, with eligibility for reappointment in accordance with the organisation’s constitution.
Geographical Considerations
While location is flexible, a willingness to travel within New Zealand is required. Preference may be given to candidates with proximity to major centres.
