 This is an outstanding opportunity to join the board of Port of Tauranga as a Future Director.

Port of Tauranga is an international freight gateway for the country’s imports and exports and the only New Zealand port able to accommodate the largest container vessels to visit here. Port of Tauranga handles a third of all New Zealand cargo, nearly 40% of New Zealand exports and nearly half of all shipping containers. The Port provides customers with highly effective supply chains through investment in regional feeder ports, inland freight hubs, cargo handling expertise and logistics services. The Port’s facilities in Tauranga include the country’s largest and fastest-growing container terminal, extensive bulk cargo wharves and storage facilities, and bunker berths.

A publicly listed company, the Port of Tauranga board consists of seven experienced directors, five of whom are independent. The Port seeks to grow the pool of future governance talent in the Bay of Plenty and have an exciting opportunity for a Future Director to join the board for a period of twelve months, with an opportunity to extend for a further six months. 

 The successful Future Director will;

* Live in the Bay of Plenty or have a strong affinity and connection with the area

* Have a proven interest and ambition to invest in their governance career

* Strong commercial acumen 

No specific industry or sector experience is sought. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in a senior position and be confident contributing at a board level. Most importantly, the applicant will have demonstrated a strong interest in governance and the motivation to pursue directorship opportunities in the next 2 – 5 years.  The board is excited to welcome a fresh perspective and hopes to attract a candidate who will contribute additional diversity to the current range of board knowledge, skills and attributes. 

Board meetings:

Board meetings are held monthly, and you are required to attend all meetings in person. In addition to attending board meetings, you are expected to participate in some committee meetings and activities, such as safety and site visits and allow time for associated meeting preparation.

The successful applicant will serve on at least one of the board’s subcommittees: Audit, People & Remuneration, and/or Health and Safety. All Port of Tauranga board members serve on the Nominations committee. 

Remuneration and/or expenses covered:

You will be remunerated, and reasonable expenses will be covered. 

Term and commencement date

This is a 12-month appointment with the opportunity to extend for an additional 6 months at the discretion of the board. The commencement date will likely be August
