About the role 

As one of our team of advisors and on governance matters, you will collaborate with your IoD colleagues and with business and governance leaders, experts and advisors to research, produce and contribute to thought leadership, content, publications, and policy submissions. You'll also contribute to the high-quality advice and guidance we provide our members and the governance community on governance-related matters such as legislation implementation and interpretation, best practice governance, IoD’s rules and professional standards. You will also help build professionalism in the sector and our Chartered Member pathway by contributing to best practice, key publications, guides and our professional development programmes.

About you

You're curious and bright and like researching and building your knowledge on a range of issues that affect business, society and governance. You've most likely worked in related organisational governance, and have a passion for and good understanding of governance - whether it be the foundations of governance, legislation, global trends, maintaining currency and best practice, or emerging and future thinking. 

You enjoy having strong trusted partnerships and engaging with a wide range of stakeholders and will be able to confidently and credibly represent the IoD in a range of settings e.g. with the IoD's governing body, at events, in stakeholder meetings, facilitating and contributing to partnered research and forums. You may be an Advisor looking to broaden your knowledge or have the experience to step confidently in to a Senior Advisor role. If you have practical governance experience, this will be a great head start in this role. 

The skills and experience you bring

  • A relevant undergraduate or graduate degree e.g. research, business, economics, psychology is required.
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience advising policy and decision-makers on operating contexts including with strategy, economic and financial trends and interpretation of organisational reporting/data.
  • Experience in interpreting legislation and/or the development of policy submissions.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand laws, especially corporate governance.
  • Excellent qualitative research skills, analysis, writing and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi and related governance matters would beneficial and most welcome 
  • Practical governance experience and/or knowledge would be beneficial.

Role details

This is a full-time role but we are also open part-time hours circa 4 days per week and can be based in our Wellington or Auckland offices, or remotely from anywhere in NZ. We offer a competitive package with the remuneration range starting from $90,000 for an Advisor level role.
