At the Institute of Directors (IoD), we believe great governance drives strong organisations – and a stronger Aotearoa. As the professional body for directors, we sit at the heart of New Zealand’s governance community, supporting over 10,500 members with high-quality training, resources, events, and thought leadership to champion effective governance and its power to create positive impact.

About the role I Mō te Tūranga

Lead creative, effective marketing that champions good governance.

We’re looking for an experienced and motivated go-getter to join our Brand, Marketing and Content team as a Marketing Team Lead. If you’re passionate about strategic marketing, leading people, and making a difference through purpose-driven work - we’d love to hear from you.

This is a key role within our Brand, Marketing and Content team, responsible for leading the planning and delivery of integrated, insights-led marketing activity. You’ll guide the marketing team to produce high-quality, effective work across our website, email, publications, social media, advertising, and events - supporting the full scope of our brand and marketing objectives.

Working closely with the Manager - Brand, Marketing and Content, you’ll drive initiatives that lift the IoD’s visibility, deepen member engagement, and contribute to our wider organisational goals -including increased reach, stronger brand performance, and commercial growth.

You’ll also:

  • Champion and uphold the IoD brand across all communications and activity.
  • Deliver content-led marketing that informs, connects and performs.
  • Use data and insights to evaluate performance and continuously improve impact.
  • Work collaboratively across the organisation to support shared goals and commercial outcomes.

About you I Mōhou ake

We’re after a hands-on marketer who can think strategically but isn’t afraid to jump in and get the work done. This role needs someone who can hit the ground running and work comfortably in a dynamic multi-layered organisation. You’ll be great with words - someone who can write clear, engaging marketing copy that sounds like us and connects with the right audience, no matter the channel.

You’ll have strong project management skills, keeping multiple pieces moving while working closely with others to deliver quality, on-brand work. You’re comfortable using digital tools, platforms and AI to get things done and know how to work smart. You’ve got a good eye for design and a strong sense of how brand, tone and content all come together to make an impact.

Detailed focused, well organised and creative – you know how to deliver work that hits the mark. Knowledge of the director and governance landscape is a plus.

You’ll also have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in a marketing role, including team leadership. Experience in a commercially focused or membership-based environment is a bonus.
  • Strong skills in campaign planning, content marketing development and project management.
  • Proven experience in using tools such as Asana, Mailchimp, and Canva to manage, create and optimise marketing activity.
  • A track record of creating content and experiences that connect with and engage the right audiences.
  • A knack for balancing the big picture with day-to-day delivery.

About us I Mō mātou
