Axis Sports Medicine - Non-Executive Director (Independent)

Axis Sports Medicine is a leading New Zealand sport and exercise medicine group, delivering inter-disciplinary clinical services across sport and exercise medicine, orthopaedics, physiotherapy and other specialist health services, with growing partnerships in diagnostic imaging.
We are looking for a non-executive director (NED) to provide independent, skilled governance to help Axis deliver safe, high-quality, and commercially sustainable care. The NED contributes to strategy, stewardship of risk and capital, clinical governance, and stakeholder confidence - bringing sector expertise and recognised governance credibility.
Ideal Candidate
Essential Capabilities
- Demonstrated governance experience as a NED in healthcare or adjacent regulated services.
- Independence of judgement, strong financial literacy, and proven ability to interrogate performance and risk.
- Working knowledge of NZ health sector funding, quality standards, privacy/cyber risks, and clinical governance principles.
- Track record of partnering constructively with clinician leaders and executives to deliver safe, efficient care.
- Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving equity of outcomes for all patients.
- High integrity, low-ego style; excellent communication and stakeholder skills.
Qualifications & Governance Credentials (Preferred)
- Institute of Directors in New Zealand (IoD) Chartered Member (CMInstD) or equivalent governance credential.
or
- Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD) or comparable governance education.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, law, health administration, finance, or clinical discipline.
Term & Time Commitment
- Initial term: 2 years, renewable by mutual agreement
- Time: 20–25 days p.a. (8 board/committee meetings, strategy day, stakeholder sessions, preparation, and ad-hoc matters)
Remuneration
$40,000 - $50,000 per annum. Reasonable expenses reimbursed.
